Van Duyne Introduces Bill to Hold Higher Education Accountable
December 20, 2022
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Van Duyne introduced legislation that will allow prospective college students to make better informed school choices based on increased transparency of the school’s cost.
The Higher Standards for Higher Education Act would require the Secretary of Education to track and report on eight additional student loan repayment categories. The data on these repayment categories will allow prospective college students to better consider and plan for the financial burden of taking out a student loan to attend a certain college or university. This bill would only affect institutions of higher education with an endowment size of $1 billion or more.
“Too many young Americans are suffocated by increasing student debt,” said Rep. Van Duyne. “My bill will help relieve this burden for prospective students simply by increasing transparency and accountability from universities and colleges rather than damaging the national economy, as the Biden Administration attempted with their proposed student loan forgiveness.”
