WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) released the following statement after voting against a House resolution to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her Committee assignments.
“Over the last 24 hours, Marjorie Taylor Greene stood before her colleagues and the American people and expressed regret over her past comments. Marjorie acknowledged that QAnon is full of ‘lies’ and ‘misinformation’ which is ‘dangerous’. She acknowledged that school shootings are ‘absolutely real’ and that ‘9/11 absolutely happened’. And she made it crystal clear that these words were ‘words of the past’ that ‘do not represent’ her. Now it’s time for us – as a Conference and as a House – to acknowledge her remorse, to forgive her, and to move forward.
“While Marjorie has apologized both behind closed doors and publicly on the House Floor, a number of Democrats have made abhorrent and incendiary comments for which they have never apologized. Fueling anti-Semitic tropes, advocating for violence in our streets, and encouraging supporters to publicly attack Cabinet officials are all worthy of an explanation and an apology. Yet on the other side of the aisle, we’ve heard nothing but silence.
“House Democrats’ decision to strip a Republican member of her Committee assignments for comments that were made years before she was sworn-in to Congress while ignoring inflammatory rhetoric from members of their very own caucus is not only unprecedented, it’s a dangerous power grab that sets a terrible precedent.
“I’m calling on Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and my House Democrat colleagues to stop wasting even more time with partisan votes and to get the House back to work on the real issues facing our country.”
