Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Van Duyne reintroduced legislation to slash wasteful government spending and lower the national debt.
The Government Offices Realignment and Closure Act (GORAC) would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to contract a non-federal auditor to locate duplicative, wasteful, or outdated functions performed by a federal executive agency. The auditor would share their findings with Congress so action can be taken to reduce waste and save taxpayer dollars. A bill with recommendations from the auditor would be considered under fast-tracking procedures located in the bill for consideration on the floor. GORAC was introduced with two original cosponsors, Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01) and Rep. Buddy Carter (GA-01).
"We have seen where wasteful government spending has gotten us," said Rep. Van Duyne. "Our national debt just passed $31 trillion and inflation is at a 41-year high. Hardworking Americans deserve better – that is why I introduced GORAC, which will drastically reduce the wasteful spending that's been lost in the bog of our bloated federal government and instead put it towards lowering our national debt."
