Rep. Van Duyne Introduces Legislation to Combat Sanctuary Cities
January 3, 2025
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne introduced the No Congressional Funds for Sanctuary Cities Act (H.R. 205) to combat the national security threat of sanctuary cities. Under the bill, cities with sanctuary policies — such as laws, ordinances, regulations, or practices that obstruct immigration enforcement or shield individuals from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – will be prohibited from receiving congressionally-appropriated community project funds.
“Radical sanctuary city policies undermine our national security and endanger citizens across our country,” said Rep. Van Duyne. “I’m introducing this bill to support President Trump’s plan to deport criminal illegal aliens by leveraging the power of the purse to pressure local governments to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.”
BACKGROUND:
- The No Congressional Funds for Sanctuary Cities Act, first introduced by Van Duyne in the 118th Congress, will ensure that cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE to protect their citizens will be held accountable.
- Rep. Van Duyne also launched an effort to deport criminal aliens from our communities by empowering our mayors and local law enforcement to work with ICE.
