WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) released the following statement after voting against House Democrats’ budget resolution, which opens the door to budget reconciliation.
“Exactly two weeks ago, President Biden went before Congress and the American people and declared he would be ‘a president for all Americans’ with a focus on ‘uniting our people and uniting our nation.’ Yet when it comes to the most critical issue currently facing our country – the coronavirus pandemic – President Biden, Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi decided to forgo any and all efforts to reach a bipartisan agreement. Taking us down this path is the very opposite of unity.
“By pursuing budget reconciliation, Democrats have made clear they are not interested in bipartisanship. They are not interested in working with House and Senate Republicans or the millions of Americans we represent. Instead, Democrats are abandoning bipartisanship in order to ram through a partisan relief package that will destroy an estimated 1.3 million jobs by increasing the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour and pave the way for equally as disastrous items on the liberal wish list, like the Green New Deal. The American people deserve better.”
