Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne voted against H.Res. 1102, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, and issued the following statement:
“Today, I was presented with an appropriations bill that I could not vote for considering that it did nothing to significantly curtail wasteful spending or implement policies to secure our border.
Since March 8th, the national debt has increased by $117 billion. This level of spending is completely unsustainable and continuing down this path will crush our economy, hinder job growth, and skyrocket inflation. Passing this budget bill would maintain the status quo that has exploded our country’s $34 trillion debt.
Additionally, as the number of border crossings continues to be higher than at any other time in our history, we must return to common-sense policies that secure our southern border and prevent the death and destruction of our country and people. Since Biden took office, over 11 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border, including members of dangerous cartels, gang members, and hundreds of suspected terrorists. This bill did not include important and necessary policy changes, including Remain in Mexico, building the border wall, and putting an end to the CBP One app.
Just as the inflation crisis forces North Texas families to make difficult decisions about where to cut spending, Washington must as well. I will continue to fight for legislation that forces this Administration to curb runaway government spending and codify strong policies to secure the border and keep Americans safe.”
