Rep. Van Duyne Introduces Stop Funding Rioters Act
Legislation Would Bar Convicted Rioters from Accessing SBA Programs Following Violent LA Riots
June 17, 2025
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Beth Van Duyne (R-TX-24) introduced the Stop Funding Rioters Act, in response to the recent violent riots in Los Angeles. This legislation is designed to ensure that individuals convicted of assaulting law enforcement officers or participating in the destruction of small businesses during riots are barred from receiving assistance from the Small Business Administration (SBA).
“Taxpayer dollars should never be used to support individuals who violently attack law enforcement or destroy the livelihoods of hard-working Americans,” said Rep. Van Duyne. “I am committed to protecting law enforcement, supporting small businesses, and ensuring that federal programs serve those who contribute to, rather than destroy, our communities.”
The Stop Funding Rioters Act provides a clear and direct policy: any individual convicted of misdemeanor or felony assault of a law enforcement officer, or of a felony related to a riot that destroyed a small business, will be ineligible to receive aid or participate in SBA-administered programs.
