Washington, D.C. – After securing key reductions in federal non-defense spending, Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) voted for the Limit, Save, Grow Act – the single largest deficit reduction bill in U.S. history – and issued the following statement:

“For two years, Democrats failed to listen to non-partisan economists who warned of the consequences of reckless partisan spending. Ultimately, their spending delivered skyrocketing inflation, which has inflicted painful consequences on families across the country.

North Texans have raised serious concerns over our nation’s dire national debt. Democrats spent far beyond our means – by a magnitude of trillions – with no regard for future generations who will be put in a precarious position, forced to foot the bill.

As I have said for months, we must return to pre-pandemic spending levels – the alternative would only worsen our inflation crisis.

With a crushing national debt of more than $31 trillion, we must scrutinize every dollar and penny spent by the federal government. After working with our House Republican Leadership, I successfully secured concessions that will result in billions of dollars in additional savings.

Despite record high income, out-of-control Democrat spending has fanned the flames of our nation’s debt crisis. I’ve worked diligently with my colleagues on the Republican Study Committee, where I’m a member of the Budget and Spending Task Force, to develop a responsible strategy for debt ceiling negotiations. We identified strategic policies to include in a debt limit increase, including restoring American energy independence, cutting discretionary non-defense spending, and expanding pro-growth tax policies.

The Limit, Save, Grow Act also includes my legislation that will expand energy production, economic growth, and energy security.

I am disappointed in President Biden for refusing to negotiate with House Republicans – even ignoring pleas from members of his own party. It is well past time for President Biden to accept the reality of his fiscal situation and work with Republicans to avoid a default on our national debt.

It is important to remember this is not the final bill, but a first step, and I will continue to work to improve our nation’s finances and get our spending under control. Families have had to cut their budgets due to inflation, it’s time for Washington to do the same.”
